Zoo Atlanta

Zoo Atlanta is located at 800 Cherokee Ave, Atlanta.

Right before covid hit, the zoo opened a great new African Savanna. You can also freed giraffes here too ( check with covid times).

Anyone 2 and over is to wear a mask at all times while at the zoo, except while eating. I will say the gift shop had some cute matching kid/adult animal ones if you want to grab some there.

They have areas for when you go view the animals for just your family, but if there are a lot there you would end up waiting a while as it is usually one or 2 areas to look per animal.

We went on a cold light rain day to avoid crowds and it was great and never had people near us. Everything is outside unless you go into the restaurant to get food, and the reptile house. We felt very safe the day we went.

To help limit the number of people, you must book your tickets online ahead of time. You will then show your phone at a certain spot in the window. I had to enlarge my barcode for each ticket so the scanner read it. 3:30 is the last ticket time you can purchase.

Tickets can be pricey so I suggest you check Groupon or buy a family pass. If you go to a Fulton County Library they have a pass you can get for up to 4 people. I have never been able to time it right and get one, but if you can I would try to get one this way. Where do I get the Zoo Atlanta Library Pass? You must visit your local public library to obtain the Zoo Atlanta Library Pass. One pass is available for checkout at each participating branch and may be checked out once per year, per household. *excluding the Auburn Avenue Research Library in Atlanta How do I use the Zoo Atlanta Library Pass? Check out the Zoo Atlanta Library Pass DVD at your local library. (No self-checkout; DVD must be checked out at the library front desk.) When you return the DVD to your library, you will receive a receipt. Please save this receipt; it is required for Zoo admission. The pass is valid for 14 days from the date of the receipt showing the return of the DVD. Present your Zoo Atlanta Library Pass receipt and your library card at the Zoo Atlanta front gate for admission. Pass is valid for up to four guests; standard general admission will apply to families larger than four. The pass is valid for general admission only and may not be used for fee-based events or programs. Not valid with any other discount, offer or promotion; may not be redeemed for cash. If the DVD is lost or damaged, a $30 replacement fee will be charged by the library system. Overdue fines will be charged for late returns.

The zoo is stroller friendly and a few small hills. Make sure to get a map at the ticket office or during covid time they have a qr you can use on your phone to get the map. There are bathrooms when you first get in on the right, close to the gift shop and thought out the park, so we always stop there first.

It is a typical zoo with all kinds of animals. They have for 50 cents a machine you can get flamingo food so you may want two quarters. They just added a great reptile house and it is air conditioned. They also have a feed a panda for $160, feed a tortoise and feed an elephant but I am not sure on those prices. Check when you get there to find out the specific times for each feedings and they may not do these during covid times.

Make sure to bring a swim suit if you want your kids to run through their little spray ground or you can buy towels and swim suits there. They have a train, merry go round, and rock climbing wall too. Check the prices, it may be smarter to buy the $20 ticket (good for one year) as it is good for 10 of these activities and can be used for multiple people. 2 activities are $5 or $3 for each activity. The have a playground at the end of the zoo the children can play on and a small petting zoo. There is a sink at the petting for the kids to wash their hands. You can bring food and drinks into the zoo (closed during covid) and they have many picnic areas. No glass or straws allowed.

As always I suggest you put on suntan lotion and big spray beforehand. Parking is now done through an app and its is roughly $3.00 an hour and $12 for the day. There is a new parking garage behind the zoo and you walk through the park to get to the zoo. The parking lot fills up quickly but you can park on the street.

I like how now you can scan a qr code at the front of the park and order food at the Nourish Cafe and pay online and just pick a time to eat. They have plenty of seating inside and out. They also have bathrooms there.

The gift shops have a certain amount of people allowed at one time. My son collects these little tiny toy animals that are 99 cents each of 6 for $5 if they want a cheap souvenir.

When we leave the zoo, if you drive down Cherokee Ave, you will come out right near one of our favorite places to eat Six Feet Under 437 Memorial Drive S E Atlanta, GA 30312 404-523-6664 They open at 11 am. They have a greet kids menu and have a great rooftop place to eat and drink. You can call ahead for reservations.
